This paper is a literary critique as well as a summary of the main themes, symbols, conflicts and characters in "Alias Grace", a novel written by Margaret Atwood about a murder which occurred over a hundred years ago. This paper also gives biographical information about the author.

From the Paper:

"Grace Marks is the main character and the centre point of this story. It is her tale that we are learning and trying to understand. Grace was an immigrant from Northern Ireland. Her family came to Canada because her father had many debts to pay and they could no longer stay there. Grace's childhood was rough. Her father was mentally and physically abusive to his wife and children. Grace has to struggle with this upbringing and become a stronger person. Grace is also a pretty girl. She becomes a housekeeper at the young age of 12. She goes through several households and befriends a servant girl named Mary."
